Veteran fighter and former collegiate wrestling stand-out Sean Salmon is opening a new MMA training facility in Columbus, Ohio.

As detailed in this week’s “MMA Insider” column for the Dayton Daily News, the former Ohio State University wrestler will open the S.S. Combat & Fitness Center on Feb. 1.

“The area produces a lot of fighters, but there’s not a whole lot of places to go to get complete, all-around training,” said Salmon, a longtime MMAjunkie.com contributor.

Although he’s been out of competition for nearly 27 months and will drop a weight class in his first fight back since the layoff, Mark Coleman is confident his move from heavyweight to light heavyweight won’t be an issue during next week’s rematch with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Coleman discussed the Jan. 17 fight and his progress in dropping weight while a guest on Tuesday’s edition of TAGG Radio, the official radio partner of MMAjunkie.com.

“The weight came off a lot easier than anticipated,” Coleman said. “I don’t see it being a problem making weight, so I’m happy about that. I’m healthy and just need to get through a few more practices, and I’ll be ready to go.”

Next week’s “UFC 93: Franklin vs. Henderson” event, which takes place at The O2 in Dublin, Ireland, has sold out.

Jennifer Wenk, the UFC’s director of public relations, confirmed the sold-out status during today’s UFC 93 media conference call.

The Jan. 17 event features a headline bout between former UFC champion Rich Franklin and former PRIDE title-holder Dan Henderson, as well as Mark Coleman’s return to the UFC for a rematch with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
